RC Plane Project

The project was assigned by my CAD and Fabrication class in 2023. The importance of this project is to reverse- engineer and/or design something of your own. 

I decided to reverse engineer an remote controlled toy plane . I chose this project due to the endless approaches to its design and most important of all, of how fun it would be to design. This CAD used over 8 assemblies/ building components. Including the separate wings, wheels, supports, and multiple propellers. 

In the end, I learned about how everything will not be exact due to human error, since I measured everything with a caliper. I also learned about how the angles of the wings were difficult to measure as well, so I must take careful measurements. Lastly, taking a creative and innovative approach to this project left me feeling successful and truly passionate about the results.

Years later in 2026, I now realize how little aerodynamics are incorporated into my CAD. Hopefully, in the future I will redesign my CAD and get more practice with surfacing features. I also am curious about the fabrication of this design and hope to research more on Styrofoam design, or maybe plastic injection molding!
