Aluminum Casted Pingu
When I took the manufacturing systems and processes class at CU Boulder, I learned about sand casting. I designed my own mold of a penguin from a children’s show called Pingu. The biggest takeaway I got from designing and casting the part, was how important draft angles and hole sizes mattered. I intended my design to be a 2 part mold with a lot of spherical geometry to have a “buttery” pull, when removing from the mold. I began to really understand the process of metal casting when I became a Course Assistant, along with many other manufacturing processes skills. Learn more here:
